When I first purchased this book I thought it strictly about climate change, global warming. Although the issue of climate change is clearly the main motivator of the text, more emphasis is placed on methods of efficiency, which for the most part mediates climate issues. That being said, I do not recommend this book to anybody who expects to read it and get a comprehensive summary on what climate change is and the evidence for it. Many ideas to improve the earth are covered and proposed, such as: carbon-free vehicles, efficient production of clean water, clean energy generation and use, and effective energy storage to name a few.Certain other things were interesting:I found it fascinating that Bill officially took a side on GMOs: he's pro GMO now. If anyone follows it closely, you might know that before he was unsure and skeptical of the benefits of GMOs when compared to possible unintended consequences. After visiting a few Monsanto and research facilities (and gonig to an anti-GMO rally), his mind changed. Most of the resistance he has seen to genetically modified foods has less to do with the perceived safety of the food or ecosystems but with a basic mistrust in large corporations.An interesting fact: about 30 percent of the earth is land for us plants and animals; humans farm about 11 percent of that dry land area; and yet 1 and 7 people are hungry. Its not that we don't have enough food he says, because experts estimate only about 55 percent of the calories we produce on farms get successfully incorporated into a humans diets.The only one other species with the power to change the climate of an entire planet, thats the cyanobacteria better known as the blue-green algae.Carbon dioxide molecules allow visible light with certain wavelengths to pass through but block the reradiated light rays that are of a different wavelength (infrared). This is why reducing CO2 emissions is vital towards improving accelerated climate change. Some other interesting methods are reflecting heat into the atmosophere through hydrosol, the name given to when nature produces bubbles in a liquid. Also increasing the albedo (amount of incoming light reflected back into space) by making white roofs and pavement.Bill's sticking points are his lack of transition, despite the text being subdivided by so many chapters, and his frequent excursions; his lack of notes; and his lack of visuals which would have helped envision a lot, especially as a young reader. Positively speaking, he has a large expanse of knowledge and possesses good didactic skills - the text reads smoothly and is conversationally toned.3.9/5

This book is easy to understand and fun to read. You don't need a degree in engineering or physics to understand the ideas presented in this book. It takes an idea which, regrettably, seems insurmountable at times and breakes it down into bite-sized pieces that leave you feeling hopeful and ready for action. While there are some futuristic technology discussed, most of the potential change would come from existing technology. The suggestions in this book are not only possible, they're doable. Right now.

I recommend this to all students, educators, past and present. You and I live on the same planet, this is our home, we must do something before it is too late.If you are a climate denier, please read, the science is there, it is all around us. Wouldn't it be better to err on the side of caution, rather than when it has caused damage to you personally?Though Mr. Nye and I disagree on certain concepts I whole heartedly support the ideas found in this book, especially the chapters regarding NASA and NASCAR.This should be required reading for everyone.

Lots of information to get you thinking. I don't understand even if people don't think climate change is true why don't we develop new technologies that are clean? It is a no-brainer to me lets get ahead of the game and be the ones manufacturing these devices.Lots of subjects, lots of information, best part Bill is the one reading it! Nothing better then hearing his little play on words and jokes in his own voice. I have seen where some people have pointed out some issues with battery power, energy per rate, and so on but to me those are minor things that will not take away from someone wanting to learn more about green energy and making a brighter future. (Yes for a science guy book they should not have made it to the final copy and print but for every day readers I don't think you will notice the issues. If it gets you wanting to know more then Unstoppable did its job and got you on your way to learning more.)

What an amazing book. If you're new to the Nye, this is a great representation of how fantastic he is at communicating scientific ideas, issues and solutions. Climate change is a serious challenge not only for humanity but for the earth as a whole. We're homeowners of a beautiful planet and he describes detailed solutions to some of our challenging problems regarding energy consumption and production.I love that this book is not just another negative look at what it means to live in a world where the climate is changing. There is no blame placed on anyone and it truly looks at it from a thoughtful and scientific view.Five stars for this amazing book!

I'm halfway through this book and have to say I'm fairly disappointed. I'm a seasoned accounting professional and know that many companies in the Bay Area use Netsuite; hence I wanted to find out more about it.First, if you don't actually have access to the software the screenshots are TINY so really hard to see.Second, this book was published in 2011. I assumed incorrectly that it would be updated like regular textbooks. But it's not and we all know how quickly technology changes.Third, the entire value of the Netsuite platform is its integrated "modules". However this book does not talk anywhere about how a sales order automatically gets converted into an invoice. This was one of the main reasons I purchased this book, to see how Netsuite handles this part of the quote to cash process.Fourthly, revenue recognition is a huge topic in the Silicon Valley and this book completely leaves out that part of the functionality.Finally, this can be seen as a pro or a con but if you are already an accountant, the book does spend some time on explaining basic accounting concepts.

There is some good information. However, it falls short in defining the purchasing process. Also, when it comes to defining roles, it advises to see Chapter 27. That would be awesome but there are only 24 chapters. It's okay if you've never logged into NetSuite but not something I recommend for a total understanding of how it works and how everything is related.

I started using NetSuite last year for work and wish, after now reading it, I had had this book from day one. The "For Dummies" series are known in general as great resources for quick tips and helpful tools, and this version doesn't disappoint. Even after having used NetSuite for almost a year before picking it up, I still found new and interesting things. It has helped me be more effective and productive in our NetSuite system.

It was OK if you only need to know the absolute basics, but it should have had more information on SuiteTalk and SuiteScript as well as more in-depth knowledge. It's also odd how it refers to people as "she" when speaking of hypothetical situations, such as "when someone refers to x...SHE means x" (a bit offputting as a man reading this book).

Pros: gives an in-depth introduction to NetSuite, how to use it, and how to customize it.Cons: not nearly objective enough in its treatment of NetSuite as a tool. With lines like "Who knew that a list could improve your productivity this much?" and "Watch in amazement as NetSuite changes your home page to suit that role", it felt like I was reading a sales brochure written by NetSuite's cheerleader squad. I get that the book's fortunes depend on conveying the benefits of using NetSuite, but do they have to be so obvious about it?

I got this book for work. It is a good, basic introduction to Netsuite. Not many books like it are available.

I read this whole book to help me at work. I got one search tip that was useful and that is all. The links for more detailed information are no longer active. A total waste of time.

this book is way too much about how to bookkeep for a small business and not nearly enough about how to actually navigate/use netsuite at a reasonably high-level. If you've never heard of quickbooks and ended up buying netsuite, I guess this would be useful, but it just hasn't provided very much value for me.

Fantastic book. My copy came quickly and was just as I expected.

A cogent discussion, from my teachers

I've wanted to get a hold of this book for a long time, as I had seen some of the graphs/charts from it through my design career. I had even spotted a few copies sitting on the shelves of some of the older, progressive architects I work with. But getting a hold of a copy... that would be tough.Fortunately, this update and reprinting is now available to the public and I jumped right on purchasing it. This is a fantastic design guide that is just as relevant today as it was in the 1960s. In fact, one could say it's even more relevant now as we may have finally become wise to the need for bioclimatic buildings and thoughtful design. If I was teaching a course (which I hope to soon) on bioclimatic design, this would be the book I assign and work from. It elegantly and clearly bridges the disciplines of architecture, engineering and biology. It goes deep enough into each of those disciplines to provide real information and data - but it also assumes the reader may not be an expert in each of those subject matters, so it also provides overviews of the principles involved in each.Frankly, this is a book that I think every student intent on designing buildings should be forced to study at some point in their academic career.

Computers, simulation software and standards have made the design process much easier, faster, and saferâ€¦but itâ€™s not always better. Design with Climate is a refreshing reminder of what it means to not only know about a local climate, but to feel it.Itâ€™s a bit like the difference between describing a radiant cooling system by its water temperature and airflow rate or saying that it is like the â€œcool breeze under the shade of a treeâ€.This timeless new edition provides professors, students and practitioners with a solid foundation in understanding climate forces and the possible responses and solutions to our current climate challenges.

About the Author
Julia Wood joined the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill when she was 24. During her 37 years on the faculty, she taught classes and conducted research on personal relationships as well as gender, communication, and culture. She was named the Lineberger Distinguished Professor of Humanities and the Caroline H. and Thomas S. Royster Distinguished Professor of Graduate Education. Introduction to the Looking-Glass Reality The biggest implication of psi phenomena is that we are potentially aware of everything in the entire universe. As mentioned in Chapter 1, experimental research over the past fifty years has confirmed that awareness of psi is dependent on one's state of consciousness, one's attitude, motivation, relaxation and other psychological (mental) aspects. We are separated from this potential omniscience by the thinnest of veils. In scientific terms this veil is call 'filter theory'. We would go totally crazy if we were aware of everything in the entire Universe even for only one second; so we need filters to block out all but the most essential items from our conscious awareness. Unfortunately this trend has gone too far, and the pressures of living in a city have made most city people so blocked that they aren't even aware of what their close friends and family are feeling, let alone whether or not some distant relative is in need of help. We have as a race become insensitive - or desensitised, mainly as a result of living in cities where the pressure of so many people and all their thoughts and emotions is so great that we have to blank out all but the most immediate perceptions or go totally crazy. So now we have to reverse the trend and become more aware, more sensitive, open up the filters a little bit, and open our psychic, as well as our physical, eyes and ears. This of course is easiest in the country! Some people call this process of increasing awareness 'becoming aware of the subconscious', since it is only in conscious awareness that we are so blocked, and the potential omniscience is all there in the subconscious. In becoming aware of the subconscious per se, we also tend to become aware of psychic information. This information is different from most subliminal information in that it was never physically present; we know something that we have never physically heard or seen or felt. The psychic information of which we become aware when we open up to the subconscious has come in by means other than our eyes or ears or other sense, possibly through the 'third eye'. In trying to understand this process by which psychic information is available I shall be travelling through some pretty strange waters. Thresholds and the subconscious Conscious experience is a very limited channel. We can, it is now accepted, be conscious of only about 7 things at any one time. The book itself is incredible. I absolutely adored the stories in it, the poems & i loved the inserts & enclosures. They made the book so special, the one flaw was that my purchase was a used item cause they don't produce this book anymore. It was missing one insert, i shouldn't be complaining about that but still. it would've been great to have all of the inserts. Just missing one. Chapter 3 The Supreme Principles of the Art of Shinobi (ichiryu no shidai) The Master says: “The work of a shinobi takes him to the very borders of what an individual can tolerate and it is only by exerting much effort that he is able to support it. These highly skilled individuals have to bear in mind when leaving their homes that they will never see those they love or their children again. Whoever returns home can rejoice for escaping his destiny. The shinobi places his heart beneath the blade of a sword. Similarly, while many people believe that ninjutsu depends on magic, that is not exactly true. Ninjutsu is a practical art and not the imposture of a charlatan.” This is when the disciple asks: “If one listens to the wind blowing, he hears that the art of the shinobi allows him to travel through inaccessible provinces and to soar over frontiers and customs posts that cannot be crossed. He hears that fathers and brothers are no longer able to recognize their own relatives who have become shinobi. Couldn’t the use of this art--such as when a man, for example, is convinced that someone is standing right in front of him, then suddenly feels the presence of someone at his back, only to turn and see that what he sensed has vanished--be compared to a mysterious rarity, linked to no other tradition? Isn’t this the art of practicing complete self-effacement when approaching people to glean information from them?” The Master answers: “If a person follows a crude principle or an art of little refinement, then that person shall surely make mistakes. But the correct path is marvelous. There are times when a shinobi recognizes reality with his heart, wraps it in a cloak of illusion (or nonreality) and presents it as reality. An experienced shinobi will recognize when an adversary is using the same principle and recognize the reality of the illusion. Chapter 5 The Teachings of Wolves and Foxes (koro no michi no narai) Foxes and wolves are very cunning animals: it is said that the fox can deceive man and that the wolf can read his very soul. They travel indirect routes and can solve the most difficult problems in an incredible manner. Although the techniques based on their example are extremely rare, it is absolutely useful to study them. When traveling along the official roads in enemy territory, you run the risk of stumbling into a checkpoint. So under no circumstances should a shinobi ever take these roads. Instead, use the technique employed by wolves and foxes, and stay away from the main roads; take the secondary routes. You should use the routes used by the native inhabitants, which are located a distance of at least two or three ri* from the checkpoints. You need to find a good pretext for using these roads. Depending on the situation and the desired objective, it may be necessary to disguise yourself as a priest, a mountain monk, or a merchant. In principle it is preferable for a shinobi to travel alone. First of all, he can then go wherever he wishes. If he is disguised as an itinerant monk, he can also be accompanied by two or three other shinobi. One of them should be an expert in languages (dakko no shinobi), capable of speaking the different dialects of sixty regions as well as capable of taking note of the important areas and places visited. The person who acts out of duress has lost the favor of heaven. The techniques of these kinds of experts are not handed down to their descendants. As quickly as pigeon eggs are speedily discovered, they become victims. You should keep this in mind and ponder on it. *A ri is an old Japanese unit of measurement equivalent to 2.468 miles. Two or three ri would therefore be the equivalent of around 5 to 7.5 miles. Chapter 6 The Teachings of Oxen and Horses (gyuba no tsutae no koto) This strategy is the opposite of that of wolves and foxes because cattle and horses move about openly among men. If a general wishes to send messengers into enemy territory, he chooses shinobi who can pass as members of the common people and thus can reach the intended territory. Another possibility lies in the fact that a shinobi can meet a messenger from the targeted province at a set time, and then have that individual accompany him into enemy territory. This corresponds exactly to the way cows and horses are led by their masters, and this is the reason the strategy was given this name. To devote yourself to gathering information, it is sometimes necessary, depending on the circumstances, to reside in the land of the adversary. The shinobi will be given complete latitude for thinking up a good reason for this: he can form bonds of friendship with people, pretend to be ill, marry a woman, speak ill of his own land and even laud the enemy country, and thereby pass for a traitor to his own country.
